Two innings decided everything in an 11-inning marathon that saw Chemeketa escape Douglas County with a 4-2 conference baseball victory over the Riverhawks on Tuesday.
The Storm grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, only to watch UCC answer back in the fourth when Jackson Thomsen and Shiloh Wilson crossed home plate to knot the game at 2-2. What followed was seven innings of scoreless baseball that showcased dominant pitching from both sides.
Noah Kiley led the Riverhawks offense with a 2-for-4 performance and an RBI, while Thomsen contributed a hit and scored one of UCC's two runs. Trevor Ratliff added an RBI despite going hitless.
On the mound, Camden Hartsell delivered five solid innings with eight strikeouts before giving way to Jayden Lucas, who gutted out six innings of work but ultimately took the loss when Chemeketa broke through for two runs in the 11th.
Chemeketa's Remy Daravivanh nearly went the distance, throwing eight innings while allowing just two hits. Chase Saunders drove in both Storm runs in the decisive 11th inning.
The loss drops the Riverhawks to 18-9 overall in what proved to be a costly conference setback. UCC will need to regroup quickly as conference play continues to heat up with league standings tightening.
