Douglas handed South Umpqua its third loss of the season Thursday, defeating the visiting squad 3-0 in a key softball matchup that could shake up league standings. The shutout loss snapped what had been a dominant campaign for South Umpqua, which entered the contest with an impressive 22-2 overall record.

The Trojans managed to keep Douglas off the scoreboard through much of the contest, but three runs proved to be the difference in a defensive battle between two quality programs. South Umpqua's offense, which had been productive throughout the spring, was held in check by Douglas pitching and defense.

Despite the setback, South Umpqua maintains a strong 22-3 overall record and sits at 13-2 in conference play, keeping them well-positioned as the regular season winds down. The Trojans have shown resilience all year and will look to bounce back quickly from this road defeat.

South Umpqua will have an opportunity to get back on track when they return to action next week with league play continuing.
