Vale defeated South Umpqua 1-0 in a defensive softball struggle on Friday at Vale. The Lancers from Myrtle Creek, Oregon, who compete in the Far West League (3A), saw their impressive season record move to 26-2 after the narrow non-league setback.

The single-run loss marked just the second defeat of the season for South Umpqua, which maintained its perfect 15-0 conference record despite the road trip disappointment. Both teams showcased strong pitching and defense in what became a pitcher's duel, with Vale managing to push across the game's only run.

The Lancers entered the contest with a stellar 26-1 record, having dominated most opponents throughout the spring campaign. While the loss stings, South Umpqua's exceptional overall record demonstrates the program's continued excellence this season.

South Umpqua will look to bounce back from this rare defeat as they prepare for upcoming games. With league play remaining perfect and only two losses on the season, the Lancers are well-positioned for a strong finish to their 2026 campaign.
