Hayden Kindreich delivered exactly what the Riverhawks needed Thursday afternoon, firing five shutout innings to anchor a 1-0 conference baseball victory over Mt Hood at home.
Kindreich allowed just three hits without issuing a walk, striking out two Saints batters while keeping UCC in control throughout his stellar outing. The right-hander scattered the hits effectively, never allowing Mt Hood to mount a serious scoring threat.
The Riverhawks manufactured their lone run in the third inning when Caden Kuhnert drew a walk and eventually came around to score. Shiloh Wilson drove in the game's only run, providing just enough offense for the pitching staff to work with.
Taylor Davis paced the UCC offense with a 2-for-3 performance, while Tristan Schaefer and Jackson Thomsen each contributed a hit in the tight contest. The Riverhawks managed just four hits total but made them count when it mattered most.
Joey Garboden and Josh Jackson combined to close out the victory, with Jackson earning the save by striking out two batters in two-thirds of an inning of work. Mt Hood's Kyle Slater led the Saints with two hits, but the visitors couldn't push across the equalizer.
The victory improves the Riverhawks to 23-14 overall as they continue their conference push. UCC's pitching staff has now delivered back-to-back strong performances, setting up well for the final stretch of the regular season.
