Triston Wallace went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Riverhawks to a narrow 2-1 conference victory over Mt Hood at home Sunday afternoon.
The first baseman's perfect day at the dish anchored UCC's offense in the low-scoring baseball affair, providing the consistent contact the Riverhawks needed against tough Mt Hood pitching. Wallace reached base safely in all three plate appearances, giving his teammates multiple opportunities to manufacture runs.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Riverhawks showed patience and persistence. They tied it up with a third-inning run before delivering the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth for the dramatic walk-off victory. Tauj Flora and Aiden Metzker each drove in runs for UCC, with Flora adding a walk to his RBI single.
On the mound, Jayden Lucas earned the win with outstanding relief work, tossing 5.2 innings of shutout ball while allowing just three hits. Lucas struck out three Mt Hood batters and didn't issue a single walk, providing the steady presence UCC needed after Cole Gomez's shaky start.
Mt Hood's Cade Wynn led the visitors with a 2-for-3 performance and the game's only RBI, while starter Nolan McCormack kept his team in contention with six solid innings.
The victory improves UCC to 11-4 overall as conference play continues to heat up. The Riverhawks will look to build on this momentum in their next conference matchup.
