A five-run third inning eruption turned a scoreless pitchers' duel into a commanding lead as the UCC Riverhawks baseball team knocked off Southwestern Oregon 6-3 on the road Friday.
After two quiet innings from both offenses, the Riverhawks broke through in spectacular fashion against Lakers starter Shinnosuke Sanada. The big frame featured clutch two-out hitting from Jackson Thomsen and Trevor Ratliff, who each drove in two runs during the rally. Triston Wallace capped the outburst with a two-RBI knock of his own.
The Riverhawks added an insurance run in the fourth before starter Beau Ramsey and the bullpen made it stand up. Ramsey dominated through six innings, scattering just four hits while striking out three. Tyler Miller and Tristan Ledbetter combined for three scoreless frames in relief, weathering a late three-run surge from Southwestern Oregon in the eighth.
Caden Kuhnert and Jeremiah Robbins each collected two hits to pace the 10-hit attack. The balanced offensive effort helped overcome a strong performance from Grayson Grover, who went 3-for-3 with a walk for the Lakers.
The conference victory improves the Riverhawks to 13-5 overall as they continue building momentum in league play. UCC will look to carry this offensive rhythm into their next conference matchup back home.
