Tyler Miller delivered eight innings of stellar pitching, but the Riverhawks couldn't solve Lane's Lucas Geren in a heartbreaking 1-0 conference baseball loss on the road Monday.

The game remained scoreless through two innings before Lane manufactured the only run they would need in the third. Quinton Olson reached base, advanced on a sacrifice, and scored on Donnie Morgan's clutch RBI hit. That single tally proved decisive in a defensive battle that saw both teams struggle to generate offense.

Miller was outstanding on the mound for UCC, surrendering just five hits while striking out three and walking only one batter over eight innings of work. The sophomore right-hander kept the Riverhawks within striking distance all game, matching Lane's pitching staff pitch for pitch.

Offensively, right fielder Caden Kuhnert provided the lone bright spot with a 2-for-3 performance. Center fielder Tristan Schaefer and catcher Jeremiah Robbins each collected one hit and drew walks, but the Riverhawks left multiple runners stranded and managed just five hits total against Geren and reliever Sam Wilson.

Lane's Geren was equally impressive, tossing 6.2 scoreless innings with five strikeouts before Wilson closed out the final 2.1 frames with three strikeouts.

The loss drops UCC to 25-14 overall as conference play intensifies. The Riverhawks will look to bounce back and get back in the win column when they return home for their next conference matchup.
