After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the UCC Riverhawks chipped away methodically to defeat Chemeketa 3-2 on the road Thursday in a conference baseball battle that showcased both teams' pitching depth.
The early deficit didn't rattle the Riverhawks, who answered with single runs in the second, fourth, and seventh innings to complete the comeback. Trevor Ratliff led the offensive charge, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI from the designated hitter spot. Taylor Davis also collected two hits, going 2-for-4 from shortstop to help keep rallies alive.
The story of the game belonged to pitcher Ty Hellenthal, who delivered a masterful complete-game performance to earn the win. The right-hander scattered five hits over seven innings while allowing zero earned runs and striking out two. After Chemeketa's early scoring burst, Hellenthal settled into a dominant groove that kept the Storm off the scoreboard for the final six frames.
Chemeketa's Kyle Sheller went 2-for-3 to pace their offense, while starter Max Eaton matched Hellenthal pitch-for-pitch with seven innings of work, allowing eight hits but keeping UCC off balance for most of the afternoon.
The victory improves the Riverhawks to 18-11 overall and strengthens their conference standing with another crucial road win. UCC will look to build on this momentum as they continue their push through the heart of conference play.
