A scoreless pitchers' duel through five innings exploded into drama as the Riverhawks plated three runs in the sixth inning to stun Mt Hood 3-2 on the road Tuesday. The comeback baseball victory improved UCC to 21-13 overall in conference play.
Both teams managed just two runs through the first five frames, with Mt Hood holding a 2-0 advantage. Then the Riverhawks offense came alive in the sixth. Shiloh Wilson delivered the clutch blow, driving in two runs to cap the three-run rally that turned the game around.
Aidan Birchard and Tristan Schaefer paced the UCC attack with two hits each, while Birchard scored one of the crucial sixth-inning runs. The duo combined to reach base five times against Mt Hood's pitching staff.
On the mound, Beau Ramsey earned the victory with six solid innings, allowing just five hits while striking out four. Tyler Miller slammed the door with three scoreless innings of relief work to secure the save, holding Mt Hood hitless over the final three frames.
Mt Hood's Brave Johnson led the hosts with two hits and an RBI, but it wasn't enough to prevent the late collapse.
The road conference win keeps the Riverhawks in strong position as the regular season winds down. UCC will look to build momentum from this clutch comeback performance in their next conference matchup.
