Lexie Gidcumb scored both runs for the Riverhawks, but it wasn't enough as UCC softball dropped an 8-2 conference decision to Clackamas on Sunday afternoon.
The Riverhawks got off to a promising start, matching Clackamas with a run in the first inning. Gidcumb crossed the plate to knot things at 1-1 early. UCC added another run in the third when Savannah Crawford drove home Gidcumb again, giving the Riverhawks a brief 2-1 advantage.
However, Clackamas responded with authority. The Cougars plated two in the second inning to reclaim the lead, then broke the game open with a three-run fourth inning. They tacked on two more in the sixth to put the game away.
Crawford led UCC's offensive effort with a 2-for-4 performance and an RBI. Gidcumb also went 2-for-4 while scoring both Riverhawks runs. London O'Brien contributed two hits in two at-bats with a walk, also taking the pitching loss after allowing seven hits over 4.1 innings.
For Clackamas, Nayomi Holmstedt paced the attack with two RBIs, while winning pitcher Kenzie West scattered seven UCC hits over the complete game.
The loss drops the Riverhawks to 8-27 overall as they continue conference play. UCC will look to bounce back in their next outing as the regular season winds down.
