Jordan McArthur delivered clutch RBIs and London O'Brien provided steady offensive production, but the Riverhawks couldn't overcome early pitching struggles in a 9-3 softball loss at Clackamas on Sunday.
McArthur finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk, while O'Brien went 2-for-3 with an RBI to pace the Riverhawks' eight-hit attack. Ella Martinez-Bryson contributed two runs and reached base three times, going 1-for-2 with a walk.
The Riverhawks showed resilience with a two-run second inning to answer Clackamas' early 1-0 lead, then added another run in the sixth. However, the Cougars pulled away with a decisive four-run third inning and never looked back.
Clackamas leadoff hitter Brooklyn Van Renselaar proved unstoppable, going 3-for-3 with two runs and a walk to spark the home team's offense throughout the game.
Pitchers Cambria Bachmeier and Kasey Ogan split duties on the mound for UCC, with each working three innings in the conference contest.
The loss drops the Riverhawks to 8-28 overall as they continue navigating a challenging conference schedule. Despite the setback, the team's ability to generate offense against quality pitching provides a positive foundation moving forward.
The Riverhawks will look to bounce back in their next conference matchup as they work to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
