Shiloh Wilson went 3-for-4 at the plate, but the UCC Riverhawks couldn't overcome a three-run second inning in a 3-2 non-conference baseball loss to Big Bend on Valentine's Day at home.
The visiting Vikings struck quickly in the second frame, plating all three of their runs to take control early. UCC answered with single runs in the third and sixth innings but couldn't find the clutch hit needed to complete the comeback.
Wilson led the Riverhawks offense with his three-hit performance, scoring one run from the leadoff spot. Jackson Thomsen drove in a run while going 1-for-3 with a walk, and Taylor Davis reached base three times with a hit and two walks.
On the mound, starter Brett Lamb took the loss despite allowing just three hits over three innings with four strikeouts. Tyler Miller provided six solid innings of relief, surrendering only two hits while striking out three and walking two to keep UCC within striking distance.
Big Bend's Cole McKinnon earned the win with 3.2 innings of two-hit ball, while Isaiah Aliksa paced the Vikings' attack with two hits and a run scored.
The loss drops the Riverhawks to 15-9 overall as they continue their non-conference slate. UCC will look to bounce back and get back to .500 ball in their next outing as the season progresses toward conference play.
