Cambria Bachmeier delivered seven innings of shutout pitching, striking out six batters to lift the Riverhawks past Grays Harbor 5-4 in non-conference softball action at home Thursday.
The sophomore hurler scattered six hits and walked four, but worked out of trouble consistently to earn the victory. Her performance was crucial as UCC's offense stayed quiet through the first four innings before exploding for four runs in the fifth.
Lexie Gidcumb led the offensive charge, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Bella Garza and Ella Martinez-Bryson each contributed two hits, with both scoring once and driving in a run. Jordan McArthur proved to be a catalyst from the bottom of the order, reaching base three times and scoring twice to spark the Riverhawks' rally.
The fifth inning proved decisive as UCC broke through against Grays Harbor starter Ashlyn Crone, who had held them scoreless through four frames. The Riverhawks added an insurance run in the sixth that proved vital when the visitors mounted a seventh-inning rally.
Grays Harbor's Crone was outstanding in defeat, throwing six innings while going 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs and an RBI. Gabby Ness added two hits for the visitors.
The victory improves UCC to 4-2 overall as they continue building momentum in the early season. The Riverhawks will look to carry this pitching performance into their next outing as conference play approaches.
