A nine-run seventh inning explosion turned a competitive conference softball game into a lopsided affair as Centralia overwhelmed the UCC Riverhawks 15-3 on Friday at home.
The Riverhawks hung tough through six innings, trailing just 6-1 before Centralia's offense erupted in the final frame. The visiting Blazers sent 13 batters to the plate in the seventh, turning what had been a manageable deficit into a blowout loss for UCC.
Lexie Gidcumb provided the lone bright spot for the Riverhawks, reaching base safely in all four plate appearances and scoring both UCC runs. Jordan McArthur contributed a solid 2-for-3 performance with an RBI, while Gracie Mello added two hits and an RBI in the loss.
Centralia's balanced attack featured five players with multi-hit games, led by shortstop Makayla Chavez who went 4-for-5 with four RBIs. Center fielder Sara Haury was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Winning pitcher Ava Hernandez dominated in the circle, allowing just seven hits while striking out four Riverhawks batters.
The loss drops UCC to 6-23 overall as the Riverhawks continue to search for consistency in conference play. With the regular season winding down, UCC will need to regroup quickly to finish the campaign on a positive note and build momentum heading into the offseason.
