Grays Harbor proved to be a formidable conference foe, capitalizing on a four-run third inning to edge the UCC Riverhawks softball team 8-7 on Wednesday in Aberdeen, Washington.

The Riverhawks battled back from multiple deficits throughout the contest but couldn't quite complete the comeback. UCC jumped out to an early 4-2 lead through two innings before Grays Harbor seized control with their big third inning, taking a 6-4 advantage.

Center fielder Lexie Gidcumb led the offensive charge for the Riverhawks, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Designated player Gracie Mello provided clutch hitting, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and drawing a walk. Shortstop Jordan McArthur contributed with two runs scored while working two walks.

The Riverhawks showed resilience, scoring two runs in the fourth to tie the game 6-6, then taking a brief 7-6 lead with a sixth-inning run. However, Grays Harbor answered with single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to secure the victory. McKenzie Breakfield paced the Choppers' attack with two hits, two runs, and two RBIs.

Pitchers Kasey Ogan and Cambria Bachmeier combined to keep UCC competitive, with Ogan striking out five in three innings of work.

The loss drops the Riverhawks to 6-17 overall as they continue navigating a challenging conference schedule.
