UCC Riverhawks Womens Basketball 101-107 Lane Community College
Giselle Muffett and Kaelyn Shoemaker each poured in 25 points, but it wasn't enough as the Riverhawks fell 107-101 in overtime at Lane Community College Thursday night. The women's basketball conference showdown lived up to its billing as a back-and-forth battle that needed extra time to decide a winner.
UCC fought back from early deficits, outscoring Lane 33-20 in the third quarter to make it a game. Shoemaker dominated inside with 9 rebounds and 3 blocks while shooting a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Muffett matched her output with 25 points, knocking down 5 three-pointers and going perfect from the stripe as well.
Rebekah Beltran added 19 points on five made threes, while Marlee Reupena contributed 17 points and 7 assists to keep the Riverhawks' offense flowing. Adrianne Tupolo chipped in 12 points in the losing effort.
Lane's Gretchen Orton proved to be the difference-maker, erupting for 46 points on 16-of-30 shooting while dishing out 8 assists. Maitlin Young supported with 26 points for the home team.
The overtime loss drops UCC to 15-5 overall as they continue conference play. Despite the setback, the Riverhawks showed they can compete with anyone, pushing a strong Lane squad to the brink on the road. They'll look to bounce back and get back in the win column in their next conference matchup.
