A marathon double overtime battle at Peninsula ended in heartbreak for the UCC Riverhawks women's basketball team, falling 71-57 in a grueling non-conference matchup that tested both teams' endurance and resolve.

The Riverhawks struggled offensively throughout regulation, managing just 26 points through two halves before finding their rhythm in the extra periods. UCC outscored Peninsula 31-0 across both overtime sessions, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Giselle Muffett led the Riverhawks' offensive charge with 13 points on 5-of-14 shooting, including three three-pointers over 40 minutes of action. Kaelyn Shoemaker and Sydnee Muntifering each contributed 11 points, with Muntifering providing efficient scoring off the bench on perfect 3-point and free-throw shooting.

Peninsula's balanced attack featured five players in double figures, led by Kimberlee Brown's 16 points on stellar 6-of-11 shooting, including four three-pointers. Malia Garcia added 14 points with perfect free-throw shooting, while Alecsis Smith controlled the paint with 12 points and strong interior presence.

The loss drops UCC to 15-5 overall as they continue their challenging non-conference schedule. Despite the defeat, the Riverhawks showed tremendous fight in the overtime periods, demonstrating the resilience that has made them successful this season.

The Riverhawks will look to bounce back from this marathon effort as they prepare for their next challenge.
