Lexie Gidcumb crossed home plate in the bottom of the ninth inning to cap a dramatic comeback as the UCC Riverhawks edged Centralia 9-8 in a conference softball thriller at home Friday.
Trailing 8-3 after five innings, the Riverhawks mounted an incredible rally to improve to 6-24 overall. The comeback began with a five-run explosion in the seventh inning, fueled by clutch hitting from Gracie Mello, who finished with a game-high five RBIs on a 3-for-4 performance.
Jordan McArthur sparked the offense throughout, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and playing a pivotal role in keeping rallies alive. Amanda Lloyd contributed two RBIs, while Gidcumb scored three times including the game-winner.
Centralia appeared in control after a five-run fifth inning followed by three more runs in the sixth. Makayla Chavez led their attack with four RBIs, while Gracie Schofield added two runs and an RBI.
London O'Brien earned the pitching victory after taking over in relief, throwing three scoreless innings while Cambria Bachmeier kept the Riverhawks in striking distance through six innings of work.
The dramatic victory showcased the Riverhawks' resilience in conference play, overcoming a five-run deficit to secure one of their most memorable wins of the season. UCC will look to build momentum from this thrilling comeback as conference play continues.
