Jordan McArthur collected three hits and drove in two runs, but the Riverhawks couldn't overcome a big second inning in a 12-5 softball loss at Clark on Tuesday.
Clark broke open a scoreless game with six runs in the bottom of the second inning, taking control early in the conference matchup. The Riverhawks answered with single runs in the first and a pair of two-run rallies in the fifth and sixth innings, but couldn't close the gap against the Penguins' balanced attack.
McArthur led the Riverhawks at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance that included three runs scored. Lexie Gidcumb added two hits and scored twice, while Gracie Mello contributed two hits and two RBIs in the loss.
Clark's Dajah Paz and Rylee Purdom each collected two hits and two RBIs to pace the Penguins' 12-hit attack. Kairi Rowand earned the pitching victory for Clark, allowing six hits over 4.2 innings.
The Riverhawks used three pitchers in the loss, with London O'Brien starting and Cambria Bachmeier taking the loss in relief. Kasey Ogan pitched the final two innings for UCC.
The loss drops the Riverhawks to 8-24 overall as they continue conference play. UCC will look to bounce back in their next outing as the regular season winds down.
