UCC Riverhawks Womens Basketball 78-55 Portland

Giselle Muffett erupted for 34 points in double overtime as the Riverhawks women's basketball team outlasted Portland 78-55 on the road Tuesday night. What started as a defensive struggle turned into an offensive showcase once the extra sessions began, with UCC outscoring the Panthers 37-14 in the two overtime periods.

Muffett was unstoppable when it mattered most, connecting on 12 of 26 field goals including eight three-pointers. The senior guard also contributed four assists, two steals and two blocks in 40 minutes of action. Rebekah Beltran provided crucial support with 22 points on efficient 8-of-16 shooting, draining six three-pointers while dishing out eight assists.

The Riverhawks trailed 41-44 after regulation before taking control in the extra frames. UCC's perimeter shooting proved decisive, as the team connected on 15 three-pointers compared to Portland's three. Beltran and Muffett combined for 14 makes from beyond the arc.

Portland was led by Bregan Ruhland's 19 points, but the Panthers couldn't match UCC's firepower in crunch time. The Riverhawks forced 16 Portland turnovers while committing just 13 of their own.

The conference victory improves UCC to 15-5 overall and keeps them in strong position for postseason play. The Riverhawks return home for their next contest, looking to build on this impressive road performance against a tough Portland squad.
