Senior guard Marcus Thompson erupted for a game-high 28 points on 11-of-15 shooting, leading the UCC Riverhawks to a commanding 87-64 victory over Whatcom in non-conference men's basketball action at the UCC Gymnasium Tuesday night.

Thompson's offensive explosion included six three-pointers and helped the Riverhawks pull away from a competitive first half to dominate the final 20 minutes. The 23-point margin of victory improved UCC's impressive record to 26-6 overall as they continue building momentum in the season's final stretch.

The Riverhawks used a balanced scoring attack beyond Thompson's standout performance, with three other players reaching double figures. Junior forward Jake Martinez contributed 16 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore guard Tyler Chen added 14 points with five assists running the offense.

UCC's defensive pressure proved decisive in the second half, forcing 18 Whatcom turnovers that translated into 24 points off transitions. The Riverhawks shot 58 percent from the field for the game while holding the visitors to just 39 percent shooting.

The victory marked UCC's fourth consecutive win and eighth in their last nine games, showcasing the team's chemistry as they prepare for the postseason push.

The Riverhawks return to action Friday when they host Lane Community College in what promises to be another crucial test before conference tournament play begins next month.
